REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Grand Imam of Istiqlal Mosque, Prof. Nasaruddin Umar, stressed that Indonesian Muslims can increase their spiritual values in welcoming the new year 2024. Because many people forget and think only about worldly affairs.
“It's not just material achievements that we are pursuing, yesterday we combined to be Brigjen, yesterday we deposited 1 billion next year 2 billion. That's a materialistic measure. We sometimes forget, are we also improving spiritually. This is what I want to remind you,” Prof. Umar said at Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, Saturday (30/12/2023).
According to Prof. Umar, in welcoming the new year, both Hijri and A.D., if you want a better change, then as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “If today is the same as yesterday, then reward the person”.
Therefore, in 2024, he hopes that Muslims will include him, to be able to be more introspective. Especially now, he said, so that not only the achievements of the world alone should be the target, but also the improvement of spirituality in order to be noticed.
“Let us introspect ourselves,” said the Messenger of Allah, “what would be the loss of my people if today were the same as yesterday. So wherever possible every time we grow older, our spiritual achievements also increase,” Prof. Umar said while attending the year-end accounting event held by PWNU DKI Jakarta.
The event was also held in order to work together, pleading through the sky for the 2024 General Election to run smoothly and peacefully.
“All our administrators are invited to this istiqlal mosque in order to pray together, so that the elections that will be held in a few months, God willing, run smoothly, safely, orderly, and peaceful. Hopefully there are no obstacles, and God willing, success,” said Chairman of PWNU DKI Jakarta, Syamsul Ma'arif.
The event was also attended by Representative of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of RI Cecep, High Imam of Masjid Istiqlal Nasaruddin Umar, Chief of Staff of Region Military Jayakarta Tatang Suvarna, Polda Metro Jaya Badya Wijaya, Rais Syuriyah PWNU DKI Jakarta Muhyiddin Ishaq, and Chairman of MUI DKI Jakarta Faiz Syukron Makmun.
