REPUBLICA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Deputy Foreign Minister Anis Matta said the decision to veto a draft United Nations Security Council resolution on the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip was unacceptable.

“On the issue of the decision, I think it is a very bad decision,” Anis said in response to the failure of the UN Security Council to pass a resolution to end Israeli aggression in Gaza as a result of a US veto.

Met ahead of the opening of the “Arts Lumiere Indonesia Festival: Muslim World Movie Screening 2025" film festival by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta on Friday night, Anis reiterated that Indonesia will continue to voice Palestinian independence at the UN level despite the deadlock in the Security Council.

The issue will also be one of the main topics that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will present before the General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly in New York next week, he said.

“Of course we will focus more fully on supporting Palestinian independence,” Anis said in response to a question on issues surrounding the Islamic world that the President of the Republic of Indonesia will voice at the UN General Assembly.

Malaysia also expressed deep concern over the veto carried out in the United Nations Security Council (UN Security Council) on 18 September 2025.

The U.S. veto blocked a resolution calling for an immediate and permanent cease-fire, as well as the lifting of restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Malaysia, via a statement from Malaysia's Foreign Ministry, in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, stressed that the veto would only make Israel more emboldened to continue its genocide and destruction in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Malaysia reaffirms its steadfast support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, and will continue to work with the international community in achieving peace and justice for the Palestinian people.
