REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEKASI -- Universitas Islam 45 (Unisma) Bekasi officially transformed into the University of Muhammadiyah Indonesia. The inauguration of this management was carried out by the Head of the Muhammadiyah Center in the course of General Studies of Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW at Unisma Campus Bekasi, Tuesday (16/9/2025).
PP Muhammadiyah General Chairman Prof Haedar Nashir said that this change is not just a name change, but also a strategic step in expanding Muhammadiyah's role in higher education.
“Today I represent the central leadership of Muhammadiyah conducting an event in addition to studying as well as the process of transferring the management of UNISMA to the University of Muhammadiyah Indonesia, which of course everything runs always with the applicable conditions and is later processed to Kemdiktisaintek,” Haedar said when he met Republika.co.id after the event.
Haedar's spirit of transformation explained, this transformation is a continuation of the long tradition of collaboration between Unisma and other Muhammadiyah universities, such as the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) and the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ).
According to him, this management transfer has profound significance. Therefore, Muhammadiyah is not only committed to managing the college, but also to deliver the recitals of the Prophet Muhammad through the fields of education, science, and community service.
According to Haedar, the new name also contains a spirit of transformation from local to national to global. “The University of Muhammadiyah Indonesia is not only for Bekasi, but it will be a buffer force for the nation and play a role in spreading Islam of peace to the world,” he explained.
Haedar emphasized that there are three important things that must be the foundation of the University of Muhammadiyah Indonesia. First, the college is expected to give birth to Indonesian human resources of noble character while mastering science and technology.
“That blend of character and science, technology and expertise will be a strength for Indonesians going forward,” he said.
Second, according to him, the campus is also expected to be a research center that drives the nation's progress, including the utilization of natural resources and future research.
“With these researches we have a solid foothold in advancing Indonesia, it is impossible for Indonesia to advance without research power,” he said.
