REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Muhammadiyah as one of the largest Islamic organizations in Indonesia is vying to vote by all presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 general election. Muhammadiyah General Secretary Abdul Mu'ti realized his organization was becoming a magnet in every democratic party.

Many politicians come close for votes. However, Mu'ti insists Muhammadiyah remained in a neutral position.

“We have come to the final attitude that Muhammadiyah is neutral,” Mu'ti said after the 2023 Final Reflection, at PP Muhammadiyah Building, Jakarta, Thursday (28/12/2023).

Mu'ti reminded the citizens of Muhammadiyah to continue participating in the 2024 election process. As a citizen there should be no apathy and passivity and abstention. Although abstention in the view of Muhammadiyah exists at the level of morality, it would be illegitimate if Muhammadiyah invited its citizens to abstain.

For, according to Mu'ti, abstention violates the law. In addition, abstention is also an attitude that tends to antipathy towards the democratic process. Therefore, UIN Professor Syarif Hidayatullah is pleased to choose one of the presidential candidates.
